Apple Prune Sauce with Fiber-Boosting Cereal Recipe
About This Recipe:
This Apple Prune Sauce is a nutrient-packed blend that’s as delicious as it's nourishing. The prunes provide natural sweetness along with fiber, which helps manage constipation. Adding high-fiber cereal boosts the fiber content even further, making this sauce a useful home remedy for managing bowels when that’s a struggle. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids in addition to eating 1 to 3 tablespoons of this sauce daily.
Ingredients:
1 cup dried prunes
1/2 cup water
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup high-fiber cereal (such as All Bran)
Instructions:
Soften the Prunes: Place 1 cup of dried prunes and 1/2 cup of water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low.
Simmer: Let the prunes and water simmer for 10-15 minutes until the prunes are plump and tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Blend All Ingredients: Transfer the softened prunes (including any remaining liquid) to a food processor or high-speed blender. Add the unsweetened applesauce, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/2 cup of high-fiber cereal. Blitz everything together until smooth, or to your desired consistency.
Serve and Store: Serve the sauce warm or chilled. You can eat this sauce right off a spoon or use it as a topping for yogurt, pancakes, or as a spread on toast. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
